Speaker Biographies

Dr. Marta Rocchi

Marta Rocchi is an Associate Professor in Business Ethics at DCU Business School, Dublin City University, and Director of the Bachelor of Business Studies International. She holds a PhD from the University of Navarra (Spain). Marta teaches Ethics for Business and Technology, Personal and Ethical Leadership, and Business and Professional Ethics. She was awarded the Irish Academy of Management "Business Educator of the Year" Award in 2024, and the DCU President’s Award for Distinctive Approaches to Teaching Innovation in 2023. Her research focuses on the new perspectives of business ethics in the AI era, and on meaningful work in organizations. 

Éamon Ó Cuív

Éamon Ó Cuív has been a TD for Galway West since 1992. He previously served as Deputy leader of Fianna Fáil, Minister for Social Protection, Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, and as a Minister of State. He also served as Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government and Minister for Defence in addition to his own for a short time. He served as a Senator for the Cultural and Educational Panel from 1989 to 1992.

Professor David Albert Jones

David is a Research Fellow in Bioethics at St Mary’s University, London.  He was Director of the Anscombe Bioethics Centre from 2010 to 2025. David read Natural Sciences and Philosophy at Cambridge (1984-1987), and Theology at Oxford (1992-2000). He came to St Mary’s in 2002 and established the MA in Bioethics.  In 2007 he was awarded the title of Professor, and together with Professor Geoff Hunt, he co-founded the Centre for Bioethics and Emerging Technologies in 2008.

He is Vice-chair of the Ministry of Defence Research Ethics Committee and is an examiner for the Society of Apothecaries’ Diploma in the Philosophy of Medicine. He was on a working party which helped draft the GMC guidance on Treatment and Care towards the End of Life. He is a Corresponding Member of the Pontifical Academy for Life and is a member of the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the EU (COMECE) Working Group on Ethics in Research and Medicine. In 2017 he received the Paul Ramsey Award for Excellence in Bioethics.

Bishop Kevin Doran, Bishop of Achonry and Elphin

Bishop Kevin Doran attended Holy Cross College, Clonliffe and completed his formation at Pontifical Irish College, Rome. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1977 and spent 37 years as a priest of the Dublin Diocese prior to his appointment as Bishop of Elphin in 2014 and also of Achonry in 2025. 

He has specialised in the Philosophy of the Human Person, gaining an MA from UCD (1987) and the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum). He has published three books and has also contributed to various pastoral and academic journals. Bishop Doran’s first pastoral letter, “A Future Full of Hope” on Catholic Education, was published in 2014.

Following his interest in the Ethics of Health Care, Bishop Doran served for fourteen years as Secretary of the Episcopal Committee for Bioethics. He was, at various times, Education Secretary for VEC Schools, Chaplain at University College Dublin, Spiritual Director at the Pontifical Irish College Rome, and National Coordinator for Vocations. He was also Secretary General of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress 2012. As a member of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Bishop Kevin chairs the Council for Life and is a member of the Council for Justice, Peace and Migrants.
